Southern Leyte State University signs Technology Licensing Agreement with Five Shepherds Corporation

The Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO) hosted the ceremonial signing of the Technology Licensing Agreement between Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) and Five Shepherds Corporation on December 10, 2025, at the Training Hall, RIES Building.

The event was facilitated by Mr. Jay K. Mahusay and attended by Five Shepherds Corporation representatives Ms. Roxanne C. Dy and Mr. Winston C. Dy; Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy; Research Innovation Office Director, Ms. Khorina A. Tablada; Extension Office Director, Ms. Adelfa C. Diola; KMTI Directors; Mr. Ramel Claros; research assistants; and other SLSU officials. 

The program began with the registration of guests, followed by an opening prayer led by Ms. Rio Katrina C. Avila, Head of the ITSO, and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Dr. Sy then delivered her message of support, highlighting the importance of commercializing university-developed technologies—such as the Coconut Splitter and the Solar-Powered Aerator—to improve agricultural practices in various communities.

Mr. Ramel Claros, Head of the KMTI, introduced the Technology Licensing Agreement, describing it as another significant milestone in advancing innovation and strengthening industry partnerships. Engr. Khorina A. Tablada also expressed her gratitude to the inventors and partners. As the owner of the Solar-Powered Aerator technology, she acknowledged the collaborative efforts that contributed to the success of the innovation.

This was followed by the awarding of tokens and certificates to the partners, accompanied by a photo opportunity.

In the latter part of the program, the event was graced by inventor Engr. Jose P. Monteroso, a former faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering. As the technology proponent, he shared his experiences and discussed the impact of the invention on the community. He also highlighted other innovations being produced by the Faculty of Engineering and emphasized the importance of technology development in promoting safety and convenience for the public. Also present was Engr. Cristine Casili, representing the Faculty of Computer Engineering.

The licensee further expressed appreciation for the partnership, recognizing the value and potential of the technologies and expressing optimism for continued collaboration and meaningful innovation.

The event concluded at around 10:50 AM, with Engr. Jonelle H. Tablada delivering the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to the partners and reaffirming SLSU’s commitment to producing more impactful technologies for the community.
