Gandilan Awards: Southern Leyte State U celebrates PCSA 2023

In celebration of the 123rd anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service, Southern Leyte State U conducted its 2nd Gandilan Awards, a program on awards and incentives for excellent service given to employees of the university, at the SLSU - Main Campus, Multi-Purpose Court on October 09, 2023. The event commenced at 8:30 a.m. through a flag-raising ceremony.

A welcome address delivered by Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President, officially started the awards ceremony, where he called on everyone for the continuous improvement of the university. Dr. Duarte said that he hopes for every Gandilan warrior to do their part and do the best they can to improve the university to serve the stakeholders, which are the students.

The welcome address was followed immediately by an inspirational message from the guest speaker, Director II of the Civil Service Commission, Dir Michael M. De la Cruz, where he discussed the advocacies of the Civil Service Commission, including the health and wellness of the people of the government. In his message, he posed a challenge for the SLSU community to pledge commitment to environmental and humane advocacy in public service, including enhancing the programs for health and wellness and financial stability and making those areas significant considerations in the workforce.

After Director De la Cruz's message was the most awaited awarding of the certificates headed by the University PRAISE Committee and the University Key Officials, this year comprises the following awards: Pearly White Award, Backpacker Award, Face Lifter Award, Mountain Mover Award, Cliff Jumper Award, and Special Achievement Award.

Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, VP for Academic Affairs and STO Supervisor, formally closed by congratulating everyone and encouraging them to become better exemplars of public service continuously.

A fellowship lunch followed right after.
