SLSU-Hinunangan celebrates PCSA2023 with Green Initiatives, Team Building

Southern Leyte State University- Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC) celebrated the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (#PCSA2023) today with an event that integrated environmental stewardship and team building while displaying their dedication to service excellence.

For over two decades, SLSU-HC has commemorated this significant national celebration by planting trees. However, this year brought a delightful twist, as the campus employees gathered to plant banana trees in addition to other festivities, led by Human Resource Officer (HRMO) Engr. Carol B. Orias, in the early hours of September 29, 2023.

"This is the second time we've planted banana trees, the first being last year in the same area with similar objectives." Engr. Orias shared.

Participants planted 150 banana suckers at the SLSU-HC Demo Farm for Integrated Farming, supplementing the existing lemon trees, root vegetables, and poultry. This integrated approach to agriculture exemplifies the campus's commitment to sustainability. Bananas, widely recognized as one of the Philippines' most important crops, contribute to local and international economies and are an essential part of the Filipino diet.

Furthermore, when cultivated using perennial techniques, they are essential in peri-urban agriculture, providing year-round soil protection. Aside from the tree planting, today's events featured team-building activities to encourage friendship and cooperation among campus personnel. On this day, the combination of environmental awareness and team spirit reflects SLSU-HC's dedication to service excellence.

This one-of-a-kind event not only improves the health and well-being of campus workers by providing access to organic foods but also encourages a better and greener lifestyle. While celebrating the #PCSA2023, SLSU-HC is happy to continue this valuable tradition, reaffirming its dedication to environmental sustainability and community well-being.
