SLSU- Maasin City Campus participates to Pabulhon Exhibit through LAMDAG's Karlang Products

In a celebration of local talent and agricultural abundance, the Southern Leyte State U-Maasin City Campus, in collaboration with the members of Lonoy Allied Movement for Development and Advancement Group (LAMDAG), proudly showcased their products made from Karlang or Taro during the recent "Pabulhon" exhibit in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

The event took place during the opening of the Tourism Week celebration, which coincided with the 23rd Charter Day Celebration of Maasin City just a month ago. The opening of the booth was honored by the presence of Hon Nacional V. Mercado, the City Mayor, Dr. Frederick C. Aniga, the Campus Director, Mr. Perfecto Ramos, the LAMDAG President, RIES personnel, and other LGU officials.

The exhibit featured an impressive array of products made from Karlang or Taro, including taro meatballs, torones de karlang, taro brownies, taro flour, taro halaya, and various traditional dishes that are introduced by Mr. Florencio Payac, an expert and faculty of the BSIT-Food Technology. Each product was meticulously crafted by the dedicated members of LAMDAG, who have been trained in food processing techniques as part of the "TRAIL Project," spearheaded by Ms. Elmee Joy D. Oraiz, the project leader.

The "Pabulhon" exhibit was not just about showcasing products; it celebrated community empowerment and collaboration. The SLSU-Maasin City Campus extension project has not only improved the economic prospects of its members but has also strengthened the sense of community in Maasin City.

Lastly, the exhibit also emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture and how it can positively impact the environment and the local economy. By promoting the cultivation of Karlang, LAMDAG is preserving a traditional crop and contributing to food security and sustainable farming practices.
