SLSU Hosts Cultural Exchange Program with Tra Vinh University

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) successfully hosted a Cultural Exchange Program (CEP) in partnership with Tra Vinh University (TVU) from July 17 to July 29, 2023. Mr. Gia Dang Huy, a student from TVU in Vietnam, actively participated in the program, marking a significant step in promoting student mobility and embracing diverse cultures.

Mr. Dang arrived in Southern Leyte with enthusiasm and curiosity as the program began. A faculty from SLSU- Tomas Oppus, Dr. Clemente Cobilla together with his family, acted as the foster family during the first week to help him adapt to the local culture.

The program's core featured engaging cultural exhibits that showcased the rich heritage of both countries. Mr. Dang actively participated in various events, including a one-act theater play, Laboratory High School Sports Fest at SLSU-TO, visits to literature classes, and interactions with prospective TVU student teachers. These activities provided valuable insights into the diverse traditions of the Philippines.

Mr. Dang also shared the culture and history of his own country, fostering meaningful interactions and an appreciation for cultural diversity among participants.

Diverse cultural workshops were scheduled to enhance hands-on experiences and encourage active participation. Mr. Dang enthusiastically engaged in traditional craft-making, cooking, and language classes. Local tours and outreach activities allowed him to visit notable landmarks and historical locations of Southern Leyte, offering insights into the host country's culture beyond the university's walls.

In September, SLSU is expected to send four (4) cultural student exchange participants and one (1) short-term faculty exchange participant, escorted by the External Linkages and International Affairs director, to Tra Vinh University, to further strengthen the bond between the institutions and promoting global cooperation.

The Cultural Exchange Program at Southern Leyte State University exemplifies the effectiveness of cross-cultural interactions in fostering mutual respect and understanding. The event facilitated lasting friendships among students from diverse backgrounds and contributed to a global vision of cooperation and understanding.
