Southern Leyte State U takes lead in monitoring, evaluating DA-funded projects

The representatives from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) recently paid a visit to Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus on March 02, 2023, to evaluate two projects worth Php 4.1 million.

One of the projects evaluated was the establishment of the Abaca Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, a crucial component of the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997. This project aims to promote food security, poverty alleviation, and social equity in the region.

The establishment of the Abaca Disease Diagnostic Laboratory is expected to enhance the abaca industry by providing a reliable diagnostic system that will help prevent and control abaca diseases. This project was successfully piloted at its extension site in Barangay Milagroso, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

On the other hand, the establishment of the Rubber Research and Development Center in Eastern Visayas aims to enhance the agricultural research and extension management skills of the University, as well as upgrade the facilities and equipment at the research station.

It is one of the DA-funded projects that was monitored and evaluated, where Southern Leyte State U, through the Office of the Extension Services, provided successful training programs for rubber tree farmers in the region.

Southern Leyte State U plays a key role in overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of projects funded by DA-BAR. Thanks to SLSU's expertise and commitment, the implementation of these projects was closely tracked and assessed for effectiveness and efficiency. As a result, the Department of Agriculture was able to better allocate its resources and ensure that the projects achieved their intended outcomes.

The DA-BAR officials encouraged the university to explore ways to advance the projects and suggested possible avenues to secure funds.
