RIES conducts research, extension writeshop; collaborates with DILG

Researchers and Extensionists of SLSU organized a writeshop with the initiation and facilitation of the Project Leader, Dr. Ludito Ramirez for consultation with DILG through the Office of Extension Services on February 22, 2023 at the RIES Building, 2nd Floor of the Southern Leyte State University.

This one-day writeshop attended by RIES Coordinators, and DILG in the person of Dr. Jhonel Añavesa, Program Manager for Southern Leyte Provincial Office and his team discussed the proposed projects of research and extension services to help in responding to the current needs of the communities in alignment with the thrusts and priorities of the local government units of Southern Leyte and Region 8.

The proposals were presented in consultation to Dr. Añavesa, one of them was the project intended to improve and develop the competencies of Barangay Treasurers in the areas of inventory, and fund management. An extension project on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management by the Institute of Arts and Sciences was given insight to focus on the disaster preparedness component wherein the weakness has been seen in the barangay level or communities. An English Proficiency extension program to help out in the skill development of Barangay secretaries was also discussed.

The DILG looks forward to the implementation of the proposed extension programs, in a strong collaboration and partnership with the University.
