Southern Leyte State U is one in observance of 18-day campaign to end VAW

Southern Leyte State University joins the nation in observing the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from from November 25-December 12, 2022.

The University will hold activities that will promote awareness of the various forms of violence women and girls experience and the laws that protect them such as Republic Act No. 9262 or “Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act,” Republic Act No. 11313 or “Safe Spaces Act” (Bawal Bastos Law), and Republic Act 9208 or the “Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.”

Under the theme, "UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines" for 2022 to 2027, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) stated in its circular, memorandum no. 2022-04 that “it aims to highlight the powerful impact of harnessing and consolidating individual efforts towards the goal of having a VAW-free Philippines”. This campaign theme is anchored in the United Nations' UNiTE by 2030 to End VAW Campaign (UNiTE).

Southern Leyte State U supports the Government’s call to strengthen the anti-VAW advocacy, eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, and foster a community that has zero tolerance for VAW .

Furthermore, while violence against women remains one of the country's pervasive social issues and a serious manifestation of gender inequality, Soiuthern Leyte State U continues to work together on this campaign.
