Faculty-Researchers of Southern Leyte State U attends capacitating activities to become full-fledged TBIs

Southern Leyte State University is one of forty state universities and colleges in the country that qualify for the next Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Trainees/Cohort under the Higher Education Institutions for Readiness towards Innovation and Technopreneurship (HEIRIT) Preparatory Program.

Technology Business Incubator is a business incubator that assists startup institutions and individual entrepreneurs in developing their businesses by utilizing modern technologies as the primary means of innovation.

Among the members of the SLSU TBI team are Dr. Frances Ann R. Sy, Dr. Mary Ann Jilly R. Ramirez, Dr. Melvin S. Sarsale, Dr. Angel T. Sabusap, Ms. Amelia Fe Mancera, and Ms. Catherine M. Garcia. They are currently undergoing training and mentorship which will be endorsed to Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARD) for a chance to receive funding for the Technology Business Incubator (TBI). Upon completion of the learning programs organized by the UP Sustaining Collaboration in an Advanced Learning Environment (UPSCALE) Innovation Hub, the SLSU TBI team will soon share the process with their respective incubatees as they become fully-fledged technology business incubators.

Technology Business Incubation aims to produce successful, financially viable businesses that can stand on their own. Incubators contribute to creating permanent jobs for the communities in which they are located by fostering the growth of new businesses. As they develop and mature, startups generate permanent employment opportunities for recent college graduates, experienced mid-career professionals, and veteran executives, which positively impacts communities and helps drive economic growth.

The TBI mentorship started on August 4, 2022 and will end on August 31, 2022, as the Demo Day Pitch for all the TBI trainees.

This endeavour is in line with the University's goal to maximize the utilization of the university’s human and physical assets with resource generation potential and engage into venture capital through Public-Private Partnership.
